The reference for this oil painting was a photograph by the famed old west photographer Edward S. Curtis. Curtis traveled around the western frontier and captured some of the most iconic impressions of Native American ever seen. This particular chief just seems to have an air of defiance about him, even as he wears the White Man's shirt and tie.
About J P Childress
J.P. "Pat" Childress, a fifth generation Texan, was born and raised in the eastern oilfields of the state. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a M.B.A and after starting and later selling a holding company, Childress moved to the Hill Country of Texas. His interest in art is long standing; he constantly improves his techniques in oil painting and sculpting through workshops and classes with some of the most highly respected artists on today's art scene.
